What's Your Take on Roman Shades?

I am thinking of replacing some sheer drapery panels with roman shades. Currently, I have silk drapery panels paired with sheers. I'm looking for a change, and it got me thinking... what type of roman shade is my favorite???

Fabric roman shades:

Or bamboo roman shades:

And if I go with fabric shades, do I choose patterned print:

Or plain fabric:

Installed inside the wall moldings:

Or outside the wall moldings:

With drapery:

Or left on its own:

Loose flowing:

Or more crisp and tailored:

Ohhh.... decisions, decisions! Either way, this was fun to think about! All of these spaces are gorgeous- I love all of the looks!

What would you do???

I love them, its a great tailored sophisticated look that you can easily dress up or down with fabric, trim,application,etc...I am using them for my husbands bath and likely other areas too. Great post, enjoyed seeing all these visuals!

I love love love a roman shade. Depends on the room, but bamboo or natural with panels is always a favorite.

Just put them in my husbands office, they look great. I did a simple tan colored linen with a beautiful brown and tan trim tape, and must say they really added a lot to the room.

I had a Roman shade made for my kitchen window (still have to put it up) but I opted for pattern (it's the Dwell Studio citrine bird print) because my kitchen is all white. So I guess it matters what your room looks like already. Do you have a lot of print/pattern going on already? Mine will be mounted inside the trim. And will obviously not have drapes since it's above the sink window, but in other rooms, I love a nice Roman paired with drapes--love that look. But again, you have to think about the room in which they're going. Bathroom? No drapes. Living room? Drapes. My opinion. Good luck--can't wait to see what you decide to go with!

I love these. While I am a big curtain fan, I realized how much more open our kitchen felt with simple bamboo shades instead of drapes. I can't wait to see what you do!

I like the woven shades as they let in a patterned light effect when the sun shines through. Inside or outside the trim would depend on how pretty the molding is, big or small window and how much of soft furnishings is required in a room. I like them without the drapes if they are in fabric.

So many options!!! I always gravitate towards crisp over loose and flowy. But I can't decide between patterned fabric or bamboo. Can't wait to see what you choose!

I think it depends on the circumstance but just for the look, I like mixing the roman shade with the panels (in that purple inspired look - I love that!). I have a friend who will most likely be doing Roman shades or a valance in her living room because she doesn't want long panels.

So glad I found your blog!! I adore it. Your taste is impeccable. All the choices you feature are gorgeous, but if it were me I'd go with the fabric roman shades with the Greek key design on them. I love that!

I love the blinds in the first one!

My thought is patterned fabric, inside the wall moldings, and depending on the pattern and color of the fabric maybe i might do drapes as well to make it more lush. I'm sure whatever you choose will be lovely :)
